Story

Tim was never happier than when he was in the woods. Latterly when he was unable to get there he yearned for the woods. If he’d been granted a wish it would have been to have walked through a woodland, down a sunny glade or open ride where butterfly rest in the sunshine and flutter in his path.

As a broach maker, he continued a tradition of coppiced hazel in local woods for many years, a practice which helped keep these woods alive. In his words, he knew more about Suffolk woods than Oliver Rackham! …not surprising considering the amount of time he spent there and his natural passion for local wildlife.

Tim’s love of nature was contagious and his family also value the riches of the natural world above monetary riches (although he did still enter the lottery every week!). He was delighted that his three children chose nature and conservation careers. There wasn’t much he couldn’t tell you about British nature… from the Latin names of every plant to exact locations of rare orchids. His most memorable experiences as a broach maker collecting hazel included startled hare, dashing woodcock and a bit of a close encounter with rutting deer.
