Story

You may know that today, 14th November, is World Diabetes Day. Felix, my 3 year old nephew, was diagnosed with the condition last year and for him every day is a Diabetes Day.

Although the treatment of Diabetes has come a long way, a cure is yet to be found. JDRF is dedicated to finding that cure and funding is critical to conduct further research. I'm a donor already and your help is also needed! If the cause itself is not enough, let me give you 3 more reasons to donate. This year I will:

1. Climb Mount Rainier: This is a 14400 foot active volcano and a mountaineering classic. It is the most heavily glaciated peak in the United States and reaching the summit requires an elevation gain of 9000 feet in 24 hours.

2. Escape from Alcatraz: The 3km swim from Alcatraz to Angel Island was first attempted in 1962 by 3 inmates. No one knows whether they were successful or not. The cold water, strong currents and marine life make this an exciting challenge.

3. Cycle from London to Brighton. I will cover a distance of 100km in this classic bike ride and I will add to the challenge by doing this at night. Nightrider.

Undoubtedly the above will involve suffering from my side but it does not stand in comparison to what Felix has to go through, day in day out. Please join me in supporting JDRF by sponsoring me. Your generosity will be very much appreciated by Felix and all other children with Diabetes!

Many thanks,

Tjalling
