Story

I am a student, half way through my Law studies. On the 26th September I ran the 30 kilometre marathon, the Lidingöloppet, aiming to raise money for the charity "Future Hope". Future Hope is an orphanage, established over eighteen years ago to provide the street children of Kolkata with a home, education, medical aid and opportunity. These children suffer extreme poverty and have little or no ability to change their lives. More than anything they need the love and security of a home. Future Hope now runs six homes where more than 200 former street children enjoy a normal life.

I was lucky enough to stay and teach at this orphanage for four months during my gap year and found the orphanage a very happy place. Many of the children had lived by their wits from very early childhood before voluntarily accepting the constraints of the orphanage. There was little they didn’t know about survival and human nature and they challenged my assumptions. There is no doubt that the orphanage changed lives, including mine, and continues to do so. It is because of this that I am asking for your sponsorship for this run to support the orphanage which helps so many.
