Story
I ran my first full marathon in Brighton on Sunday 10 April 2011, raising money for the Lifeboats while doing it. It was a hard slog in 23C sunshine (which I normally wouldn't complain about) but I still managed to finish just inside my target time at 3:28.45 (averaging just under 8 minutes per mile).
Finished in 447nd position overall - which isn't bad out of a field of 8000+! It was OK until about mile 17, then I started to struggle. At mile 20-21 we headed out towards Shoreham power station and it seemed like we'd never reach the turnaround point, but eventually we were on the home stretch along the seafront and the Palace Pier was drawing gradually closer. I had to push hard to get in under my target 3.30 but the crowds really helped!
Thanks to all my supporters both in person and in spirit - much appreciated :-)
My GPS track is here, showing the route, the hilly bits, and where my pace started to drop! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/78544725
Still plenty of time to get your donations in, now that you know I actually did it.....
Please give generously – the volunteers who run the lifeboats around the UK coastline are doing an incredibly important job, and the service runs purely on charitable donations. I always used to enjoy putting a few pennies in those collection boxes which were a boat that bobbed up and down when the coin went in!
Nowadays it's all high tech with online donation and credit cards, but of course if you want to donate the old fashioned way with cash or a cheque just send me an email (boggissimo@gmail.com) and I'll let you know my address.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
