Story
Hello! From 11 August to 24 September 2014, I will attempt to cycle east to west across the United States of America over 45 days (I'll be cycling on 39 of them). I was planning on using my trusty Dawes Synthesis, but then, being 19 years old, that bike has taken quite a lot and so I've opted for a newer Dawes Galaxy to take me across the continent. Starting in Wilmington on the east coast, I will be travelling through the states of North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and finishing in Seal Beach, California. On the way I’ll be taking in an array of landscapes, and exploring the culture – particularly musical – of the places I visit, especially in Nashville, Memphis and the Desert Empire (a.k.a. the Coachella Valley).
This was initially a personal challenge, but I figured that it would also be a good opportunity to raise some money for a cause which I truly believe in. Amnesty International is a worldwide organisation, free from political, religious or governmental ideology, campaigning everywhere for dignity, equality and fundamental respect between human beings, and the preservation of human rights.
Donating is pretty quick and easy, and Justgiving won't pass on any further emails or give details to third parties. If you're a UK taxpayer you can GiftAid your donation which allows a percentage of tax to be claimed back from the government, meaning more money actually goes to Amnesty International. None of the money you donate goes toward the funding of my trip - it goes straight toward the charity.
Please dig deep and donate if you can. Thank you.
