Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising Money for Barnsley Hospital Intensive Care Unit as I’d like to give something back after spending 5 and a half weeks there last year when I contracted severe Covid pneumonitis. It was the most terrifying time of my life, especially after I was told I had to be put into an induced coma and making that phone call to my family not knowing if I would ever wake back up. I spent 2 and a half weeks on a ventilator. Luckily my body started to respond to the treatment and I was able to be brought out of the coma and start my recovery. I had lost a lot of weight as well as muscle and was so weak I couldn’t move anything. I couldn’t speak due to having a tracheotomy as I was still needing ventilator support but I was awake
and alive and was determined to build up my strength to get home to my family. I couldn’t have done this without the amazing care and support of each and every member of staff on ICU, they are an amazing bunch and I cannot thank them enough.
Myself and a group of friends have set ourselves the challenge of cycling Coast to Coast, from Southport to Hornsea where we will cycle 215 miles (346km) over 4 days (22nd - 25th July), to raise money to help the unit and provide some comforts for the patients to help with their recovery process, hopefully providing more mobile phones/tablets to make communicating with family members much easier.
Supporting me on this journey and also taking on the challenge are my good friends, Barry Nicholls, Mark Greenman, Trevor Hinchliffe, Paul Haywood, Joe Hargreaves, Billy Baker*, Dave Collins*, Roy Harper, Liam Nicholson, & Anthony England along with Ben Morritt and Mark Cooper as support drivers.
*Due to other commitments, Billy Baker and Dave Collins will be completing the challenge from 9th to 12th June 2022
Please donate if you can to raise money to help provide support and comfort for future patients of Barnsley Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
