Here is Pips story.
Pippa Rose Daly was born 31st May 2017 at St Marys Hospital Newport Isle of Wight.
At 12 hours old Pippa was in NICU (A neonatal intensive care unit)
at St Marys with a extremely fast heart rate over 250 bpm, she was given medicine to try and slow her heart rate down but her heart continued to beat at a dangerous pace.
PICU (A paediatric intensive care unit) at Southamption general was called for further assistance they sent a team of doctors and nurses over to NICU. Pippa under went a procedure called a cardio-version (electrical pulses sent to the heart to send it back into a safe normal rhythem) the procedure worked.
Pip was then rushed to PICU in Southampton to under go observation to ensure her heart rate didnt rise whilst they assessed her for which medicine to give her, Pippa was later diagnosed with SVT (Supra ventricular tachycardia) which in aldults is fairly common but in new born babys and infants its rare and can be fatal.
Pippa spent 3 days in intensive care 24/7 nurse by her side once she was stable the doctors subscribed her Propanalol which she has been taking 3 x daily for the last 7 months.
PICU saved Pippas life the staff the facilitys was all fantastic but funding is still required to ensure they continue to save babys, infants, toddlers children upto 18 year olds lives.
What This charity has done for our family we cannot thank them enough but we can raise money for the charity we have decided to walk the wight and do the family 8 mile walk with our son jude who is 4 and Pippa who will be nearly a year old.
If the wonderful doctors from PICU were unavailable through lack of funding then our little bundle of joy pippa would not be alive today we thank you.
Friends and family are welcome to join us register www.iwhospice.org the walk is on Sunday 13th May 2018.
