The Yeard · 1 December 2014

Our charity supports research, education & innovation at St Mark’s, the UK’s national bowel hospital. The projects we support have driven clinical improvements for patients living with complex bowel diseases, and enhanced disease understanding.

Story

The Yeard is a year long, untrimmed beard. A truly wild and untamable creature, they are rarely seen in today's clean shaven world. After discussing the idea of growing one for charity, on December 1st 2013 I set about the "task" of cultivating a yeard.

The St Mark's Hospital Foundation is the first specialist bowel disease hospital, where they not only treat patients but carry out extensive research into these specialised diseases. Their work at St Mark's Hospital has a direct impact on many people's lives across the UK, and their research affects people across the world.

Many of the diseases they deal with have only been known for the last 20/30 years, and so work is desperately needed to understand how to cure and/or mitigate these diseases, as well as to work towards finding a cure.

I've had continued involvement with them since 2010 and they are doing fantastic work. I'd like to invite you to help me raising funds for this very worthy charity. Not only will your money help people across the world, you can also be safe in the knowledge that somewhere in the country, a mans beard will be growing untrimmed for a year.
