Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In January 2012, my Grandad was diagnosed with a rare condition called 'Motor Neurone', a neurological disorder that selectively affect motor neurons, the cells that control voluntary muscle activity including speaking, walking, swallowing, and general movement of the body. They are generally progressive in nature, and cause increasing disability and, eventually, death.
My Grandad always loved telling stories of his time in the RAF and his adventures, racing his bicycle around the country. In order to raise awareness Motor Neurone, I have decided to use my Grandad's bike to re-trace a route that he cycled, more than 60 years ago, from Northamptonshire to Topsham (in Devon), in one day, using the old roads he would have used. The proposed date for the ride is due to be in the last week of July, one year on from my Grandads passing.
The money raised will be going to the only charity in England focused on Motor Neurone care, research and campaigning, Motor Neurone Disease Association (MDNA). The MDNA aim to enable everybody living with MND to receive the best care, archive the highest possible quality of life and to die with dignity.Thank you for your time.
