Fundraising for Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center
Story
Hello, and welcome!
It has been a trying year for the Thompson Island team, like it has for all of us, and yet they have continued to partner with Boston Public Schools to provide needed services for the kids of the city. What started out as a promising year full of plans to reach even more BPS partner schools completely morphed into using that partnership to provide basic services, like food. Obviously as part of that radical change the TIOBEC staff took appropriate, clear headed yet aggressive steps to optimize all operating costs whilst continuing to execute on their core mission, the kids.
Now that the schools are opening back up BPS has asked Thompson Island to begin to offer the STEM programs it typically delivers, initially virtual of course. They also want the staff to focus on key social and emotional skills to assist the kids as they work through this challenging time.
Whilst we did not run the virtual 4k trail run as a team this year we did choose to pay the sponsor fee. We really couldn’t honestly ask you to join that effort with everything we all had going on in our lives.
This feels a little different. Things are beginning to re-open and the kids need the help.
