At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We are acutely aware that you will receive many requests for sponsorship during 2012 but we would be extremely grateful if you would read our story carefully and give whatever you can to this superbly dedicated cause.

All three of us have had close relatives who have suffered from Alzheimer's and when talking about it in September of last year we thought we should do something meaningful to raise as much money as we could for this wonderful charity who does so much to support Alzheimer's sufferers and their relatives. We had all considered doing some form of event in order to fund raise for the Society but had not considered doing something as a team until we found the Outlaw Triathlon. The challenge consists of three disciplines (as the name suggests!) so one for each of us!

Tom swims 2.4 miles in open water (equivalent of 154 lengths in a 25 meter pool)

Al runs 26.2 miles (a marathon)

Jimbo cycles 112 miles (a seriously long way)

I hope you feel that each discipline is a worthy challenge and there has been much debate over who has the "worst leg" - perhaps you could let us know your thoughts!

That's enough about the challenge and now for a little more about the excellent cause we will be supporting - Alzheimer's Society. First established in 1979 Alzheimer's Society is dedicated to raising awareness of the disease in all of its forms as well as improving the quality of care, support and information for those who suffer from dementia. Alzheimer's Society has 230 branches across the UK, staffed by thousands of volunteers, who are there to offer support and information about this degenerative disease. They fund research into the cause, cure, care and prevention of dementia, to improve treatment for people today, and search for a cure tomorrow.

The Outlaw Triathlon takes place 1st July 2012 so only a matter of weeks remain for us to train but we would be so grateful for your support to inspire us through the last gruelling training sessions and on the actual day. Thank you very much for your generous donations.
