Isle of Wight Challenge 2021 · 10 July 2021 to 11 July 2021 ·
On the 26th April 2019 our family had its world turned on its head. We were all busy living our own lives when we were given the terrible news that Dawn, my mum was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
We had known for some time that Dawn wasn’t quite herself, suffering from headaches, dizziness and blurred vision. She had felt this on and off for at least 18 months and after several GP visits and a trip to a hospital drop in centre, she decided to go to A&E. Within 4 hours the diagnosis was delivered and it was something none of us could have ever imagined.
Since Dawn’s diagnosis she has gone through a whirlwind of appointments, CT and MRI scans, a 9 hour awake craniotomy, intensive radiotherapy and has now embarked on 9 months of chemotherapy.
In the face of all this Mum has continued to be the same person we have always known and loved – strong, sassy and determined to fight this awful disease.
We will be attempting the Isle of Wight challenge in May 2020, a 106km continuous walk around the Isle of Wight. We are raising money for Brain Tumour Research, the only national charity in the UK that is dedicated to raising funds for continuous and sustainable scientific research into brain tumours.
Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, they kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer... yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.
Over the next 6 months, we will racking up the miles and Dawn is determined to join us on her bike whilst we are training through all conditions to prepare ourselves for the big day!
Please donate anything you can to help us reach our target and make the blisters worth it!
