I lost an uncle recently who used to do this skimarathon on a fairly regular basis. This year is the first year he is not around to see it. This year is also the 50th anniversary of the event, so it seemed apt to have a go in his memory on 11 March.

Barnardo's vision is that the lives of all children and young people should be free from poverty, abuse and discrimination. 

Have I ever done this before? No! But the combination of training, some top tips, inspiration from the Winter Olympics and a bit of practice in the days before the event should be enough to get me over the line.

Children are one of our greatest resources and are literally our future but so many get a tough, if not impossible, start in life. Barnados can change that for many. Please give whatever you can. Thank you.
