Story
Halfway up a scree slope at the summit of Mount Snowdon in the pouring rain I clung to a boulder, prayed this wasn't my time to meet my maker and vowed that I'd never climb another mountain again as long as I lived.Later that evening, safely ensconced in a little pub, enjoying the best pint of my life, we discovered that, ill prepared, our little group had just taken on one of the most challenging paths up the mountain. As if this wasn't bad enough,my crazy best mateSam suddenly declared wouldn't it be great to take part in the three peak challenge. The three peak challenge, she enthused, was a once in a lifetime chance to tackle the UK's three highest peaks in just 24 hours.A stunned silence ensued.I ventured to remind her that far from being in the peak (excuse the pun) of physical fitness, we were all suffering stiff limbs after just one mountain, let alone 3. The subject was dropped. But not for long…….Within a few months, cancer unexpectedly and heartbreaking robbed my best friends of their cousin Mark, leaving his widow with two small children, their friend Tony, and most personally for me, my darling mum. Grief left us breathless and lethargic, but when the fuzz cleared , we determined to take positive action and participate in the three peaks event to raise funds for Cancer Research and St Raphaels, a local hospice who provided my family with the support we needed to look after my dear mum at home until she passed away. So, Sam and I, two thirty something mums, (along with her husband Ben) will be attempting (on my part!) to conquer the three peaks between the 10th and 11th July 2010. I am hoping that my dear friends and colleagues will offer me their wholehearted support in this, and remember that cancer affects 1 in 3 of us directly at some point during our lives. I will be asking for your sponsorship, and if everyone in my business area at work, and my friends only donate £1 each, I will have raised enough money to buy a vital piece of equipment for the Hospice. Of course, i am hoping that most of you will dig a bit deeper and donate considerably more...!!!Many thanksToni
