Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for AdoptionUK.
On the 15th October 2018 Adoption UK published that children awaiting adoption are outnumbered by adopters 2:1.
They have also published "The Adoption Barometer" in July 2019 - the first ever comprehensive study of modern day adoption in the Uk :
"Adopted children are considerably more likely than others to be diagnosed with a range of physical, mental health and learning needs which too often play out in the home as violent and aggressive behaviour. They are 20 times more likely to be excluded from school than their peers, and twice as likely to not be in education, employment or training (NEET) as young adults. Establishing and maintaining meaningful contacts with birth family members is challenging and adoptive parents feel unprepared for reunions during the teenage years.
For too many, the support that would enable their children to overcome these barriers is too difficult for parents to
access, with potentially devastating long-term consequences. As a nation, we have both a moral and an economic
imperative to ensure that adopted children, who are among the most vulnerable of all children, are provided with
high-quality support from the earliest possible opportunity. "
I was adopted when I was almost 7 years old, and I am pushing to ensure our young people and families have all the support they may need.
