A dementia friendly Grand Depart · 8 June 2014

We help older people to reminiscence, replay and reconnect through the power of sport and physical activity. We support a wide range of people aged 50+, including those living with dementia, depression or facing isolation and loneliness to improve their mental and physical wellbeing

Story

Sporting Memories have been offered an amazing opportunity to ensure sports fans living with dementia and memory problems are able to enjoy and engage in the Grand Depart across Yorkshire on the 5th & 6th of July 2014.

Sporting Memories has been offered space at up to twenty official  Grand Depart spectator hubs, where upwards of 150,000 spectators are expected to gather to watch the World famous Tour de France wind its way across Yorkshire for two days. At each hub, sporting Memories will have volunteers who are 'dementia aware', who will have information on dementia available to the public. There will also be an army of Memory Makers to interview spectators about their own sporting memories to create a lasting legacy that can be used by generations across the UK to help tackle dementia, depression and isolation.

To make this happen, Sporting Memories needs to kit out the volunteers, create materials, buy and build Gazebos, buy chairs, tables, information racks, transport all the equipment and feed and clothe the Memory Makers.

We estimate to get Sporting Memories to a spectator hub will cost £1,500 per hub. Let's make this happen!

To make this happen we need to kit our Memory Makers out with suitable apparel, digital voice recorders, sporting pinks, information on dementia and memory problems and a s
