Ian Mikardo High School · 29 September 2014

All our students have severe and complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD). Many have been excluded from other schools and are regarded as unteachable when they join us. At Ian Mikardo, we provide minute-by-minute support and our new purpose-built school gives them a safe haven.

Story

We support disadvantaged and vulnerable children at Ian Mikardo High School, an inspirational place in East London where negatives turn to positives and we follow our motto, "Come With A Past, Leave With A Future!"

We are also the subject of Channel 5’s documentary, Too Tough to Teach?

You will see from the documentary that out-of-school learning makes a massive difference to our young people.  We are always looking for sponsorship and exciting partnerships to support us with this work.

We need to raise £25,000 to be able to continue to provide inspirational extra-curricular activities, and a much-needed support service for parents and carers. Our off-site work, which involves challenging young people and giving them a sense of achievement, combines education and personal development to realise their potential. In true Ian Mikardo style, our mission is to empower, build confidence and provide the skills needed to lead fulfilling lives, lessening the need for social care and intervention services.

Barclays are a valued partner that supports vital welfare services, including our in-house psychotherapist. Now we are extending these services to an out of school hours facility that will empower parents and carers to become more confident, independent and stronger in their caring roles. We need you to make this happen!
