English Channel Relay 2023
Campaign by SwimTayka (RCN 1176079)
The English Channel swim is seen as the Mount Everest of all swims as more people have climbed Mount Everest than have swum the English Channel. Swimmers will take part in a relay team of 6 from Dover to France, with the swim taking 12 - 18 hours.

Story

I have always loved to swim, my mum was terrified of water so she made it her goal that I wasn’t, she pushed me always to swim, and it’s been my go too sport since I was a little girl, swimming in the nearest pool I could find 3 to 4 x a week to then moving to the coast 10 years ago & discovering the amazing-ness of Sea swimming through all the seasons & never looking back. Now with my mum chair bound after strokes & Alzheimer’s has made me even more determined to embrace life & take on a challenge as she would have when she was fit & well. I’m nervous as hell possibly bitten off to much but I’m stubborn & determined. & so excited to swim on a new level & for the journey leading up to July, meeting the team & the actual swim.

We’ll get a call in the early hours in July to get to Dover asap, with a boat, a team of 6 & a heap of goose fat we’ll take on our swims in 1 hour slots, starting in the dark, we’ll take time to rest inbetween & get warm & look after each other & the swimmer in the water, encouraging each other, the swim is up to 18 hours with currents & other factors increasing the time in the water.

Im honoured to raise money for swimtayka which is an incredible course to stop unnecessary children drowning due to no access to learning a huge life skill that is so important as swimming.

The English Channel swim is seen as the Mount Everest of all swims as more people have climbed Mount Everest than have swum the English Channel. Eeek

Drowning is a silent epidemic that claims an estimated 360,000 lives every year, many of them children.Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide. These are wasted lives and preventable deaths. SwimTayka's mission is to give disadvantaged communities around the world access to swimming teachers who can not only provide the life skills of swimming, but create a legacy for todays children, who will grow up to teach the next generation.

Please help me to raise money for this fantastic charity & support me in this personal challenge.
