I know this sounds crazy but I intend to run (and complete) the Derby Half Marathon on June 5th. 

Anyone who knows me will understand that this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever set out to do. BUT...after 30 years of zero exercise, and not even being able to run round the block 6 months ago, I am very determined to do this and thought I would try to raise some money for a very worthy cause at the same time.

I have chosen to support The Alzheimer's Society because there is currently no cure for Alzheimer's disease, but there is a lot that can be done to enable someone to live well with the condition.

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia. The word dementia desribes a set of symptoms that can include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. These symptoms occur when the brain is damaged by certain diseases, including Alzheimer's disease.

There are more than 520,000 people in the UK with Alzheimer's disease, and 850,000 with dementia - this number is set to rise to 1 million in 2021 - and one of them could be you!!

The Alzheimer's Society passionately believes that life doesn't end when dementia begins. They support anyone affected by dementia and keep people affected with dementia connected to their lives and the people who matter most.

Therefore, I would be very grateful for any donations, big or small...it will all help to motivate me on the day and make sure I finish it. My employers have agreed to match the total amount I raise, so please dig deep and help to support this worthy cause.
