Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We did this challenge last year and raised a fantastic amount of money for NICFC. I know our money didn't find a cure to childhood cancer and have no doubt that the amount we raise this year wont either BUT that's because there is no cure yet. When our daughter Cassie was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in 2010 a consultant said to us that there was nothing that we could have done to prevent this happening, "she was just unlucky". I thought this was the weirdest thing to say to anyone but now having walked the walk we totally understand what he meant.
This week I listened to a interview of a doctor on TV that backed up the unlucky theory. At the end he said that more money was needed to diagnose these cancers earlier in the GP surgery so that the treatment can start earlier and be more effective. I totally agree.
No matter what cures or treatments we find I know one thing for sure, we will always need a charity like NICFC. They are there from beginning to end, and beyond, no matter what the outcome. They offer support to the child that has cancer, their parents and siblings and their grandparents. NICFC also help children who's parents have had cancer. The support they gave us and Cassie was invaluable, emotional and financial support and a place to escape from the routine of hospital treatment. It kept us together as a family.
Please make a donation and help our local children and their families living with cancer.
