Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K · 4 July 2010

St Luke’s is an independent charity caring for terminally ill adults and their loved ones across Sheffield. Each year, we care for around 1,900 patients most of whom are cared for in their own home by our Specialist Palliative Care Community team.

Story

Hi everyone.

I've made a last minute decision to run the Jane Tomlinson 10k in Leeds on Sunday - to provide moral support to my lovely friend Jill who is running 10k for the 1st time (good for you Jill!!)

Equally importantly I am hoping to raise money for St Luke's Hospice who provide outstanding care to the  terminally ill free of charge. It is a truly amazing organisation and I am proud to have been a Trustee for the last three years.  Both my parents were cared for by a hospice at the end of their life and, without it's support I simply wouldn't have been able to cope with two terminally parents at the same time.

As you can imagine providing specialist palliative care to over 1400 people every year is very expensive and the majority of our funding comes from generous donations from the people like you and me. The last 2 years have been challenging as people are understandably tightening their belts and charitable giving takes a back seat.

If you can spare a few pounds to help support this brilliant organisation I would be so grateful. I understand if you are not able to support me on this occasion - there are many worthwhile charities and we can't support them all.

Wish me luck and I'll post a post-run photo for you all to laugh at!!

With much love
