On Saturday 4 August a friend and I, with support from my wife Therese, will attempt to cycle in a single day from the westernmost point on the Scottish mainland, at Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, to its easternmost point, at Peterhead harbour.

A total of 223 miles, or 358 kilometres. The route profile has just under 2,900 metres of vertical ascent and the estimated energy consumption for me will be over 10,000 calories. You can see more details about the route at https://gb.mapometer.com/cycling/route_4729377.html.

In addition to the challenge of it, I am hoping to raise money for local Aberdeen charity Archway.

Archway is an independent charity offering a range of innovative community based services to improve the opportunities available and quality of life for people with learning disabilities in Aberdeen and throughout the North East area.

I've known about Archway and the fantastic work it does for many years through my association with Aberdeen Round Table. They make an incredible impact on the lives of the people they help and their families. Donations from individuals, community groups, companies and charitable trusts are essential to allow Archway to be the for those in the local community that need their help.
