Staff, students and alumni are fundraising in support of the Sanctuary Scholarships. This will help remove barriers faced by students seeking asylum in the UK, providing them the opportunity to transform their lives through education.

Story

Myself and some other fellow cyclists have decided to leave the bikes behind and take on the infamously hilly Sheffield Half Marathon. This will be a huge challenge for me because although I am an athlete, running is not something I particularly enjoy, especially running a distance and route this immense!

Since it is a challenge I am raising money for Sanctuary Scholarships as part of the Hallam Fund. The Sanctuary Scholarships recognise the determination, aspirations and resilience of asylum seeking students, their academic abilities and potential to succeed. All money raised will go towards a full tuition fee, an annual maintenance grant of £4000, and a package of tailored support. The scholarships aim to remove the barriers facing asylum seeking students, so they have a real opportunity to make the most of what university can offer, regardless of their personal circumstances.

It is an amazing cause but only with the funds it requires so it would be awesome if anyone can chip in to help me hit that £150 target. What's more, I'm hoping the reward of fundraising, running with friends, and, of course, the thought of finishing will get me through this brutal challenge that I have foolishly agreed to!
