Story
Hey Guys!
My name is Tris Minihane and I am currently 17 years old and live in Tonbridge, Kent. In 2009 I decided to take a huge leap—when I leave school I am going to spend a year of my life abroad as a volunteer! Since that decision, I have been selected by the Charity Project Trust to go to India in August 2010. India India is very important to me because I am in fact half Indian! Yet I have never visited nor know anything of India’s amazing culture or my ancestral origin. I want to go there not just to see the other side of my heritage, but because I want to spend a year of my life dedicated to helping others, to change a child or a whole school’s circumstance for the better, and to maybe come out with a handful of life experience at the same time. The Project I will be going to a project where I am to become a teacher, working in either a rural primary or secondary school, or teaching English to students in a school for the deaf and blind. The children that I will be teaching and the families that I will be staying with will be my life for an entire year, and this experience will completely immerse me in a country whose culture I so much want to be a part of, while at the same time allowing me to give something back to a community.
Fundraising
Project require us to raise £4,850, which is a grand feat when to be done by fundraising means alone - but something which we all still think is do-able. So this is why I need your help! It’s as simple as sponsoring me, offering a prize for a raffle, coming along to one of my fundraising events, or just giving me a helping hand somewhere down the line — I really do need your help, no matter how small the contribution! I AM CURRENTLY RAISING MONEY THROUGH WAXING MY HAIRY LEGS! IF ANYONE WANTS TO SPONSOR ME FOR THAT PLEASE DO!!! Project Trust Project Trust is a charity set up in 1967 on the Hebridean Isle of Coll, Scotland. They send about two hundred volunteers a year to less economically developed countries across the globe, and they are widely respected as one of the most experienced and professional gap year charities in Britain. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
