Story
Hello all,
I'm so happy to share that I've been offered the role of Team Leader working on a support project in a developing country in either Asia or Africa [TBC] for 8 months. This is being run by the Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) programme.
The VSO ICS brings young people together to fight poverty. All the projects are designed to have a lasting impact, both on local communities and on individual volunteers who are encouraged & inspired to be active citizens. They cover all aspects of third world aid: HIV support in Kenya, rebuilding war affected communities in Senegal, and supporting education and support of small enterprises in Zambia.
As a Team Leader, I will work alongside up to 20 volunteers from the UK and overseas and make sure the project not only has a positive impact on the target community but also promotes the wellbeing and development of the young volunteers.
Before I go I'm hoping to raise £800 for the charity to help support and show commitment to their work. Please be generous and help out however you can and donate whatever you can spare. Your donation will be helping more young people to take part in sustainable development programmes that directly benefit people in third world countries. While I don't benefit from your donation, the work VSO does is supported by it; including the people in the pictures I'll share from my placement.
I am in the process of planning an event at the moment. I will keep you posted. Watch this space!
I am very excited about this lifetime experience and looking forward to making a difference in someone else's, as well as my own, life!
