Congratulations Rebecca!

On the 13th April 2014, Rebecca Hoyle joined the many thousands of people running in this year’s Virgin London Marathon.  

Rebecca ran the race in 4 hours and 45 minutes.  

We have updated the page with images of Rebecca in her running gear, with the London Marathon number badge.

Rebecca would like to thank everyone who has sponsored her to run in the London Marathon this year and raised funds for Blind in Business.  Please continue to give donations as the page will remain open until October 2014. 

 Blind in Business provides invaluable support to blind and partially sighted young people to find careers, both through direct guidance and also in working with Careers and Disability Advisors at colleges and universities and with employers.  Since 2000 it has helped more than 800 people into work, delivered more than 500 training courses and workshops, and given specialist guidance to more than 6500 school children. 

The UltraCane company provides electronic mobility aids to blind and visually impaired people and is proud to support Rebecca.  She heard about Blind in Business from her father, Professor Brian Hoyle, who at the University of Leeds was one of the original developers of the UltraCane concept.

Rebecca works for a legal practice in Leeds and is all too well aware of the need for organisations like Blind in Business who support and assist young people who are blind or visually impaired in their search for careers.  She has been running (not very fast) for the past 5 or 6 years and has successfully completed a number of 10km runs and one half marathon run, which she will be doing again in March (3 weeks before the Virgin London Marathon). 

 Rebecca decided to enter the ballot for the Virgin London Marathon for the first time this year.  She was surprised when she heard that she had been accepted to run in the race. It's always been something she wanted to do and can't believe how lucky she is to be accepted first time.  Rebecca will be out running every week leading up to the marathon and so we will update you with her training progress as the weeks progress.  She knows it's going to be a massive challenge to do the Virgin London Marathon but is inspired by how funds raised will support the amazing work Blind in Business does for young people – so please help with any amount LARGE or Small!
