We support people with aphasia to enhance their lives and raise awareness

Story

As we all know, Covid 19 has put tremendous pressure on our NHS from staffing to resources. We, humans, have many vulnerabilities and one of which is aphasia.

Aphasia is the inability to comprehend or formulate language because of damage to specific regions. The North East Trust for Aphasia (NETA) provides intensive therapy three times a week for 12 weeks
to those who have suffered from brain injury or stroke. Amazing work which gives individuals a chance to regain basic communication skills which we take for granted.

This is an amazing cause. As a child, I was diagnosed with dyspraxia of speech with a phonological delay resulting in my speech being intelligible. From personal experience, I can tell you how much of
a difference therapy can make to an individual's life. I have also been very fortunate to be able to witness this in clinic this semester.

Over the next 6 months, I'll be taking part in three exciting challenges:

12th September 2021 -  I will be running the great north run which is a half marathon (13 miles)

April 2022- Half iron man (1.9km swim, 90 km bike and 21 km run)

10th October 2021 - Manchester Marathon (26 miles)

Thank you for supporting me.

Lots of love

Urvi xx
