VSO is an international development organisation that brings people together to share skills, build capabilities, and change lives to make the world a fairer place for all. Everyday, VSO volunteers are working to empower people living in some of the world’s most marginalised communities.

Story

In January I will be leaving home for 4 months to work as a Team Leader for VSO Tanzania! During this placement I will be working with and helping to supervise a group of UK volunteers aged 18-25.

The goal of this project, locally named 'Elimu Fursa' or Opportunities in Education in English, is to improve the quality and availability of education for young people in the 'Lindi' region of Tanzania. Tanzania has a rapidly growing population which has overwhelmed its fragile social service system. 84% of Tanzanian's live on less than £20 a month, and 34% on less than £7 a month. This makes it vital for the countries future that young people are getting the education they need to find careers or go on to further education and realise their full potential.

As part of the International Citizen Service programme, every volunteer is asked to fund raise to support the programme  and ensure that we can keep working to make the world a better place to live. The money is distributed amongst the organisations working with ICS and is NOT spent on any individuals flights, accommodation or expenses. This is NOT a holiday, I will be fully embedded into a community and working full time on this project. My target is £800, anything you can spare towards this cause would be greatly appreciated and it WILL help to make a difference globally. Thank you!
