Story
In 2009, when Miss Angelina’s baby boy William passed away in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St Peter’s Hospital in Surrey, friends and family very kindly donated a total of £2030 to NICU and these funds were used to purchase a cooling mat for the nursery ward.
Cooling babies deprived of oxygen at birth improves their chances of growing up without disabilities such as cerebral palsy; the cooling treatment - known as therapeutic hypothermia significantly helps to reduce brain damage and studies show that children (age 6 & 7) who have been cooled as babies are less likely than those who have received standard treatment to have neurological abnormalities. Miss Angelina revisited the ‘nursery’ ward this year and witnessed in person the wonderful 1:1 care these babies and families receive when they find out the shocking news that all is not well with their beautiful new baby. Miss Angelina and her husband felt that it would be wonderful idea to continue to support NICU and the magnificent efforts of the NICU team.
