Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hello to all and thank you for taking time to read this (Vals) story. This isn't something I've ever done before but feel I can now ...with some assistance!

On the 15th of July 1989 my youngest son John (18 at the time)whilst on his motorbike making a delivery was hit head on by a lorry that came into Johns path. As a result John was left seriously injured in the road. Fortunately a passing motorist, Cpl Chris Shaw from RAF Coltishall stopped to help and managed to stem the very serious loss of blood.(5 pints!) and quite literally saved his life whilst waiting for the ambulance to arrive. After many weeks of treatment in hospital John recovered but with life changing permanent injuries which still have an impact on him today and forever will. John will be 49 this year and had it not been for Cpl Chris Shaw we doubt he would be here now. Chris obviously is a hero to us all and we still stay in touch to this day.

And then 25 years ago on the 9th of January another tragedy struck our family, my eldest son Danny (aged only 24) whilst serving as a Cpl. in the Royal Logistics Corp in Larnaca Cyprus was run down and killed by a local drunk driver.
Danny was doing so well in his Army career and loving every bit of it. He was always full of fun and had packed so much into his short life and was loved by all that had the good fortune of knowing him.
Danny's sister Katie was serving in the RAF at Brize Norton, he had been home on leave to Norfolk just a few months before he was killed and she recalls waving him off on his flight back to Cyprus. He was proudly wearing his Norwich City shirt. (Coincidentally Katie was also posted to Cyprus with the RAF a few months after his death.

Like so many other parents nothing can prepare you for that knock on the door to find a Police officer (or army officer in Danny's case) bringing you the news that one of your beloved children has been killed... and no matter how old they will always be your children!! Danny would have been 50 this year. He never had the chance of his own family but we're sure he's looking down on his 4 nephews (1 named Danny of course!) and 2 nieces.Katie and John tell them about their 'Uncle Danny' who still lives on in our hearts.

In honour of Danny's memory and to let John and Katie know how proud of them I am I've chosen to do a Skydive to raise fund for 'RoadPeace'. This is a non profit organisation that can offer support in these tragic situations. All monies raised will go to assisting them in their efforts to help others.
This (definitely 1 off!!!) event will be done on the 2nd of June this year a week after my 69th birthday!
My very supportive husband Bob has offered lots of encouragement and his assistance in achieving my aim. He's even offered to fly the plane and double check all my Skydiving equipment!! Don't you just love him!?

Thank you for taking the time to read this and l hope you can donate to help this small run charity keep on doing their caring work.

Thank you all again for your support
Love
