Cancer Care Map is an online directory of cancer support services providing regularly updated and trusted information. Cancer Care Map will help anyone affected by cancer find information on support for families, loved ones and carers as well as those living with cancer themselves.

Story

Hello to all those kind enough to spend their time reading this. Some of you will recall that when I ran London in 2010 it was a “one-off”to say thank you to Breakthrough Breast Cancer for saving my sister. However,things change and, unfortunately, not always for the better.

Looking at those last words I wrote several weeks ago referring to the return of the cancer nothing could be more true. Sadly, after a difficult Easter weekend, Sarah left us on Tuesday; slipping away peacefully with her loving husband, John and father, Derek in attendance.

Since then a number of you have been kind enough to say that there is no need for me to run and that your donations stand. However there is. I made a commitment to Sarah and John and also to Dimbleby and this extends to the countless people they continue to support in such a personalised and caring manner. So, as my last one-off I have chosen to do something rather silly and “run” the Race to The Stones in July, 100km along the Ridgeway fromthe Chilterns to the stones at Avebury. 5 mile warm-up, marathon, marathon, 5mile cool down, 62.5 miles. This time it will be in aid of Dimbleby CancerCare. The words below are my sister's and I simply can't change them;

“Now despite being severely life limited Dimbleby has been my lifeline. I would love to see my 25th wedding anniversary in July and Dimbleby are giving me the support I need to make it. The support they give reaches beyond the physical and beyond the patient. The counselling they have given me has literally kept me sane but just as important is that they counsel John in his own right and to his own needs as the “silent partner” in the process and will continue to do so after my part is played.

Dimbleby are based at Guy’s hospital London which is where I find myself most of the time. While they can’t cure my cancer or assuage abroken heart I would be grateful if you could support my mad brother so that they can carry on this support for many others until this cruel, indiscriminatedisease is eradicated.”

Thank you again for taking the time to read this. If you could please, please, take the next few minutes to click “Donate” and reach for your credit card -  thousands of people whom Dimbleby support would be just as grateful and every single penny counts. One last favour; go home and hug or ring your family and tell them you love them.

Thank you
