I pledged last year to do something to make a difference in other peoples lives as a celebration of my 70th Birthday this year.
I’ve never been able to run, in fact I make Loris & Luella laugh when I try, so no point in attempting a marathon! Walking has always been enjoyable so that is where my thoughts took me.
My health has given me the freedom to walk, whether just to the shops or a nice stroll through the countryside but for many I realise life is not that easy. Thoughts have been, to raise enough money to make a difference for those who find it difficult or can’t walk.
The aim is to raise funds for a charity called “Through the roof” (www.throughtheroof.org) which provide wheelchairs and other aids to change the lives of people with disabilities in developing countries. It costs £42 to give a disabled person freedom through the gift of a wheelchair. This also provides work for prisoners in Parkhurst Prison, Isle of Wight as there, in a workshop, wheelchairs are refurbished.
“Through the Roof “ also run accessible groups and holidays for disabled people. Julie a disabled lady in our church is excited about going with them on holiday in September.
All this work is done with the teaching of Jesus at the forefront, “to reach out to all peoples.”
