Fundraising for the Quicken Trust · 14 November 2015

We partner with the people of Kabubbu, a rural community in Uganda. Working with our sister NGO, we transform lives by providing funding, lifting many out of poverty via our Primary & High School, Health Centre, Training, Farming School, Tourist Resort, Church/Community Centre & welfare programmes.

Story

In August 2016, Alison (Hilliard), Anthony, Tom and Hugo Verelst-Way are volunteering in Kabubbu, near Kampala in Uganda. Kabubbu is a community supported by the Sussex-based Quicken Trust with a primary and secondary school, health centre, adult literary centre and a range of income generating projects that encourage practical self sufficiency.

'We'll be working in Kabubbu's schools, helping orphans and needy children and supporting the community's projects like farming and micro finance. We lived in Uganda from 1999-2004. Tom arrived there when he was 6 weeks old! Both Tom and Hugo went to their first schools in Uganda and we all have happy memories of the country.

Kabubbu is only 40 minutes north of where we used to live in Kampala and yet until 2000, locals there called themselves the 'Forgotten People'. Even today, there are no phones and no piped water. Hundreds of the children are orphans and the health centre treats 2000 patients each month for life threatening illnesses.

Between now and August 2016, we're raising money for projects in Kabubbu. For example, Tom is baking brownies and selling them at school. He's sold nearly 2000 brownies so far to pupils at Brighton College - and is taking orders for Christmas deliveries. For example, one box of 12 brownies will provide a mosquito net and malaria treatment for a child - or textbooks for a student to complete secondary education.

Please support us to make a difference to lives in Kabubbu'.
