Story
Have you been outside? Cold isn’t it?
A quick paddle in the sea? Feckin cold, isn’t it?
Get your cossie on and joining me swimming 5miles before 9th Dec? Damn feckin cold, isn’t it?
I am blessed to live in a place where I can sea swim in pretty decent quality water the majority of the year. But that good water quality is only because we have alternatives to burning or dumping our waste. Today, one in three people worldwide have no access to waste management services and are forced to dump or burn their waste, causing disease, polluting the oceans and contributing to the global climate crisis. 9 million people a year die from diseases linked to waste and pollution and up to 5-10% of all climate change emissions are caused by the open burning of waste.
So I'm joining forces with my work colleagues at Zumo to fundraise in support of the good work of UK charity, WasteAid.
And to do my bit I’m sea swimming 5 miles over a number of chilly dips in the North Sea. My dips will be logged and the 5 mile challenge completed by 9th Dec. Average water temps will below 10 degrees - nae wetsuit, just my cossie and a smile!
Reiterate this for dramatic effect - Below 10 degrees, NO WETSUIT
Please help me to raise visibility for this critical issue, support sustainable waste management practices worldwide and exceed my fundraising target by donating and sharing at the foot of this page.
What is WasteAid and what does it do?
WasteAid is a young, dynamic and independent charity, based in the UK but with global reach. The charity works with local communities and policy makers in some of the world's poorest places to implement solutions focused on waste management and recycling.
Their work improves the livelihoods of some of the most marginalised people, promotes circular economy innovation and contributes to better health, a cleaner environment and dignified jobs.
I know it’s getting close to Christmas but please give as generously as you are able.
Thank you
