I am abseiling down the side of the Europa Hotel Belfast on the afternoon of Sunday 20 December 2009 in order to raise money for the Stroke Association Northern Ireland. 

This is a cause with particular resonance for me since my mam, Varian, died of a brain hemorrhage in May 2007.  Consequently I am raising money in memory of her.  Money raised will go towards helping stroke sufferers and their carers.  If my mam's condition had not been so serious it could easily have been her and I in that situation.

If this was not good cause enough I should also point out at this stage that I am not exactly 'fond' of heights...or edges.  Therefore all money raised will not only go to an excellent cause but will also be my impetus to get myself down that very, very, very tall building the hard way.  Expect every profanity known under the sun on my way down and anyone willing and able to carry me to the 'Crown' after I reach the bottom for a much deserved pint is welcome to come watch.  In fact my rotten mates are threatening to film my exertions and put the resulting footage on youtube - so at least you can be assured that after making your donation that you can have evidence that I actually did it.

Please donate generously - I used to always raise the most money for charity in primary school, all of it due to my mam's capacity to wheedle donations out of people for a good cause.  So bear in mind how much lighter your wallet/ credit card would be if she were still here today after visiting this page!
