Oor Wullie's BIG Walk · 10 August 2019 ·

We help the babies, children and young people treated at Scotland's largest children's hospital, the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. We fund medical equipment, research, play programmes and family support services to ensure that our young patients receive the best possible care and experience.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In April this year Lillia was admitted to Glasgow Childen's Hospital with a swollen lymph node in her neck and suspected neck abscess. We were in hospital for a week before she was ready for surgery. After her first surgery her abscess unfortunately returned and we ended up back in hospital for a second stay and a second, exploratory, surgery. Lillia's abscess was diagnosed as an atypical mycobacterium which was a pretty tough bug on her little system - she is still on a long course of antibiotics to try and fight it and avoid further surgery - it's getting there now and we are hopeful that it won't be long until it clears up.

We have been very lucky that Lillia has been well within herself and thankfully it wasn’t too serious but we are fundraising for Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity because both Ross and I were truly amazed and humbled by the amazing teams we encountered during Lillia's two stays in hospital in April.

The staff were absolutely amazing in every way and the facilities on offer to keep an active 2 year old engaged and busy
during two week-long stays in hospital were second-to-none and I know many families are there much longer.

Two of the best facilities we encountered were the
Medicinema and the playrooms in both wards we were in – our
daughter spent much of her time throughout the days in the play rooms and it really made her time there go faster. Each ward also had play assistants that took toys to children that couldn't get to the play room.

We are so looking forward to completing the Oor Wullie Walk with our families on Saturday 10th August and raising money for this amazing and vital charity - all donations are very much appreciated and will go a long way for this amazing charity.
