Story
Dear Friends, Colleagues and Supporters,
I am a 19 years old student studying Business & Psychology at Aston University, Birmingham, UK. As a part of my degree I am going on a placement in my third and penultimate year. I have chosen to work as a volunteer for Volunteers for Educational Support and Learning (VESL), teaching English in a rural school near Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand.
English in Thailand is incredibly important as without this skill young adults are unable to go onto study at University or gain employment. Perhaps an even more important issue is that the main ethnic communities within Thailand share no other common language. Spoken English is essential to help cement the newly found peace within the country and, help to provide communities with a shared means to communicate and reach their potential and aspirations.
VESL has been working in rural schools within Thailand since 2003 and their volunteers have been able to provide thousands of children with an opportunity to gain invaluable experience of spoken English that has been of a real and measured benefit to their future prospects.
VESL is a charity and a not-for-profit organisation. As a volunteer I am fundraising towards the cost of setting up and running this important programme. VESL receive no government grants or funding and rely on donations from trusted and committed people and organisations. I am appealing for a donation (however small) from you so that the good work that VESL can continue. I am convinced that my work in Thailand will make a big difference to the children and young people in the community I will be working in.
Thank you very much for your help and support.
With good wishes.
