Story
Thanks for stopping by :) I've become involved with youth mentoring in London, and am aiming to raise £2k for Friendship Works ("FW") by the 28th October 2012. Suggested donation is £40.
The majority of us have had a relatively worry-free childhood surrounded by loving families. FW helps 5-16yrs old kids in the London area who typically face financial hardship, domestic violence, alcohol or drug misuse, social isolation, divorce or bereavement. These kids need adult guidance to help them develop and grow, which they cannot find at home. By matching them with adult volunteers over the course of 2 years with weekly interaction, FW manages to create uplifting, working friendships. The 1-on-1 nature of the interaction is time-consuming, but ultimately very effective.
If you are interested in supporting the cause, your money will be spent on organising outings and mentorship events. The latest one was a day in the park, flying kites, which the kids had never done before. Amazing smiles all round :)
In addition to the donations, I'll be running a half marathon in support of the charity, rocking up in my notorious running kit (see picture) regardless of the temperature ;)
