Outlaw Triathlon 2012 · 1 July 2012 ·

We are the UK’s leading ovarian cancer research charity. In the UK only 1 in 3 women live more than 10 years after diagnosis. We are working to better prevent, treat and detect ovarian cancer, so that by 2032 at least half of women with ovarian cancer live for 10 years.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you know, I'm taking part in the Outlaw Triathlon in Nottingham (2.4m swim 112m bike 26m run) on Sunday. As I have been told by nearly everybody who knows me that I'm mad, I usually just get on with it and wouldn't normally ask for any charity support........ until I went to see my friend Fran in hospital this afternoon. She is terminally ill with ovarian cancer. She is my age, has worked with me for many years and has devoted her life to looking after children with cancer. She is the most caring and loving person you could ever meet. When I asked Fran which charity I should support she suggested Ovarian Cancer Action. We need to do what ever we can to make people aware of this 'silent killer', maybe start screening woman in their fourties with a simple blood test. Sadly by the time Fran was diagnosed last summer with Stage 4 ovarian cancer, with liver and lung involvement ,which makes prognosis very poor. Please support this cause so that women with ovarian cancer can be diagnosed at a much earlier stage and outcomes can be improved. Your money will help to raise awareness and support research to find a cure.

My thoughts will be with you all day on Sunday Fran!

Please support this charity!
