Great Wall of China Marathon · 15 May 2016

We are a national charity working to transform the hopes and happiness of young people facing abuse, exploitation and neglect. We support them through their most serious life challenges and we campaign tirelessly for the big social changes that will improve the lives of those who need hope most.

Story

I do not like running - and I am not particularly good at it.  However, I would be very grateful if you could support me and (more importantly) the charity in this event.

My decision to do a marathon was formed when I saw a list of the World's Hardest Marathons in a magazine and the Great Wall of China was deemed to be the hardest.  Over 20,000 recorded stairs and multiple inclines of 600m or more.

This is not an easy event - there are several marathons run on the Great Wall each year and the course that this event will be run on contains more stairs and difficult sections than any of the others.

Only around half of the starters actually finish and the winning time is typically around 6 hours (vs. 2.5 hours for a normal marathon).  I hope to get around in 10...   I have never done a full marathon distance.

I've chosen a charity that supports disadvantaged kids as everyone deserves a chance in life regardless of where you are from.

Thanks, Scott
