WALNEY TO BRIDLINGTON 2011
It seems like a good time to plan the next great charity fundraiser at Furness College.
Last year we woke at 3.30 am to pedal 118 miles across the top of Scotland just to see the sun set (and eat pies). We were all amazed at how much was achieved in a single day, even with the “wrong” equipment and not enough preparation!
This year on the 29th of May the plan is this. We will, over the course of three days, cycle the 210 miles from Walney to Bridlington. We plan to do this by staying in hostels or B+Bs and it will take place over the summer half term holidays.
We all like to do our bit for charity and during the later half of last year our mind was made up. It’s a sad fact of life that we all lose loved ones and this became a reality for two members of the team. Alan Connolly lost his grandfather of 84 years, Thomas Park and Dave “Puckers” Pucknell lost his father in law Alex Smith.
Both were lost after long battles with cancer and what made really difficult times bearable was the help given by McMillan cancer care nurses.
