We support people with aphasia to improve skills and confidence

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

On the 30th of December 2016 I began running regularly as a way of getting fitter and improving my overall health. Nearly two years down the line and I have done several 10k runs and two half marathons. Now i think it is finally time to take on the big one... the Marathon. And what better place to do it than my home City of Manchester.

I am going to be raising money for Speakeasy - a wonderful charity based in Ramsbottom. They are a brilliant organisation that help people struggling with a condition called Aphasia. Aphasia is a complex acquired communication disability and can occur after a stroke or brain damage e.g tumor or head injury. People with Aphasia find it hard to speak and to understand what other people are saying. This means it can be difficult as they often feel left out of conversations.

Speakeasy is a local charity providing long-term support, opportunity and therapy for people affected by Aphasia. Their Speech and Language Therapists offer a wide range of activities, courses and projects for people suffering with Aphasia and their carers. These include conversation groups that help people develop confidence in their speech using special Aphasia software and technology.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
