Hitchhiked to Morocco! · 31 May 2010
Yes the title is true, I hitchhiked from London to Morocco, t'was a long and arduous task taking in total nine days! Nine days of elation, tears, banter and suffering, or as I like to say eltebuffering (TM). There were crazy fun times such as driving through most of France with another two hitchers in a small jockey's car who managed to roll joints and smoke them wall driving. There were worrying times such as getting a lift with a man from Algeria could not return to Morocco as he had driven over someone and would go to jail for. . . murder! There were trying times such as being dropped in a random location and being forced (well not forced but it seemed a sensible thing to do) to walk over four hours in 35°C heat with zero and I repeat the zero vasa/aqua/agua/shwei/water (language optional).
Then after enjoying a couple of days in marrakesh enjoying a location untainted by rampant consumerism (and alas hygiene as well) a volcano in Iceland erupted (I blamce kerry katona for her shitty adverts). This led to an even more fun trip of a 23 hour bus ride from Casablanca to Madrid bus which coincidentally had no toilet, followed by three different planes across different times and places, to finally arrive back in sunny London with its bucktoothed buxom lasses.
During the lengthy journey home I started writing a compendium of short stories one of them based on my travels, not only is this good fun but any of you that donate will receive a free signed copy once it's been published, which might someday be worth something, just like Greece's economy.
I'm raising money for link community development because they are a charity I believe in. Having been to Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro twice with childreach international I've seen the good work that charities do out there, and I believe it is crucial that even in times of economic unrest we keep giving, because no matter how bad you think your situation is there are always people who are worse off and LCD are helping them! They contribute in five different African countries and really make a difference to the lives of children who may not otherwise have access to clean water, vaccinations and education, everything that we take for granted and spend so much time bitching about in this country. So even if you only donate two pounds that can help by giving a life-saving vaccination to a child in another country and although that may mean one less pint next time you're down at the pub, that's a 500ml cost of saving a child.
Thanks for Reading
