Every two years at Citi in London we vote to pick a new charity. I am delighted that we chose Place2Be which is a charity I knew nothing about beforehand but which is clearly so important.
Mental health is something that is so important for us all and all the more so for children. Children have always suffered from mental health issues (possibly as a result of things that are going on at home or perhaps because of bullying or just the challenges of growing up) but in the modern age we heap on top of this huge pressure to do extremely well and then subject children to the global experiment of social media. It is remarkable to think that one in ten children in the UKunder the age of 16 suffers from a diagnosable mental health disorder, such asanxiety or depression. That’s an average of 3 in every classroom. Place2Be provide in-school mental health supportto children so that they can address mental health issues early on, build theirresilience, and therefore have the best chance at going on to be happy, healthyand successful adults. As the support is provided in the school, it removes thestigma associated with a child being away from class to see a counsellor.
Place2Be works in 286 schools across the country, and in each school, they helpchildren to deal with the huge range of issues that they are facing – thingslike abuse, domestic violence, bullying and much more.
