Whitstable to Walmer for VSO · 27 April 2013

VSO is an international development organisation that brings people together to share skills, build capabilities, and change lives to make the world a fairer place for all. Everyday, VSO volunteers are working to empower people living in some of the world’s most marginalised communities.

Story

Please continue to support VSO - you'll be helping some of the world's poorest communities to build sustainable livelihoods.

You may remember that in August 2013 I walked 40 miles around the Kent coast in one day to raise money for VSO. It took me 16 1/2 hours and I raised over £1000. My wonderful supporters walked with me for a while, brought me food and drinks, offered general moral support and were there to give me a warm welcome when I came limping into Walmer at the end of the route.

You may also remember that I walked 300 miles in Spain the year before and raised another £100 for VSO.

I am so serious about VSO that I am now volunteering for them myself.

I am currently living in Tamale, northern Ghana supporting SeKaf Ghana Ltd, a local ethical business, with marketing, sales and business skills.

SeKaf has a social purpose to empower women shea pickers and processors and provide them with training and sustainable employment so that they can make a decent living for themselves and their families.

I'm currently looking for a fundraising idea out here in Tamale (walking very far is too hot unless you do it before the sun comes up)....

Why do I want you to donate? So that VSO can send people and their skills to some of the world’s poorest communities. VSO's goal is “a world without poverty, where excluded and marginalised women and men have a choice and an opportunity to participate effectively in society, have enough to feed and clothe their families, have access to education and healthcare services, land on which to grow food or a job to earn a living.”

So, just the sort of stuff most of us take for granted at home.

Thank you so much in advance for your support!
