Will's Arctic Adventure Challenge

Arctic Adventure Challenge · 5 January 2020
In October 2017, my life and that of my family changed forever when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 15.
Living with Type 1 Diabetes is difficult and relentless- every morning when I wake up it's the first thing I think about and every night before I go to sleep it's the last thing I think of. I never have a day off. I have to check my blood glucose levels about 12 times a day and inject insulin whenever I eat a meal or a snack.
I decided that, rather than let it get me down, I would control my Diabetes and not let it control me. I am now fit and well, continue to play rugby and try to lead a normal life. I am remaining positive and proactive and I have been volunteering for Diabetes UK since June 2018.
I recently won the Diabetes UK Inspire Award 2019 for Young Person's Outstanding Contribution; this was in recognition of the fact that I have already spoken to over 1000 students to raise awareness of this life changing condition, it's symptoms and the complications that can arise if it's not managed properly.
I now want to raise money for Diabetes UK to help fund vital research, which will hopefully one day lead to a cure for people like me living with Type 1 Diabetes.
In January 2020, along with 10 others from my rugby team at Bishop Auckland Rugby Club, friends and family, I will be taking on an Arctic Adventure Challenge to raise money for the UK's leading Diabetes charity, who have helped me tremendously since my diagnosis. I will spend 8 days in Arctic conditions, taking on various challenges and hoping my insulin doesn't freeze!
Please donate and join me in fighting for a world where diabetes can do no harm.
Any donations will be greatly received. Thank you.
