We give grants for essential items to alleviate poverty & promote education

Story

It’s our 8th birthday party! We love presents but as we haven’t seen much of our friends, we’re inviting lots (staying outside of course). We don’t need THAT many presents. Share the love!

More grown up details below.....

We are a group of neighbours in Hornsey who have set up mutual aid groups to help vulnerable people with their shopping during lockdown for Covid-19. Some people have no access to money at this time, so we want to be able to give 20 pound grants to vulnerable people to help with their shopping. We are also considering ordering from wholesalers some essential supplies to give out to vulnerable people. Hornsey Parochial Charities, set up to support the vulnerable in Hornsey, have kindly agreed to hold the money for us. Any money left over at the end of the crisis will be donated to local food banks.

About the charity

Hornsey Parochial Charities was set up in 1620 for “the maintenance of eight poor men of the Parish of Hornsey” Today, we continue to assist anyone with need who resides within the old parish boundary of Hornsey to alleviate the effects of poverty and promote educational and economic achievement. We do this through the provision of grants in 3 areas: 1) Personal grants To residents in need to help with essential items such as clothing, bedding for the cost of heating and lighting. 2) Educational grants To young people under the age of 25 years to assist with education expenses or to prepare for a career, profession or further education. 3) Local organisation grants To charitable organisations who provide homes or services for the elderly, infirm, homeless or other organisations providing services to the local community, including the provision of grants to schools, community and youth organisations.
