As you are aware I am in Tanzania just North of Arusha where I am volunteering in a Secondary school called Ngateu. I am with the gap year company called Africa Asia Venture, who do volunteering projects all over the world.

I have decided to take on the challenge of climbing to the roof of Africa on the 27th March. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895m or 19,341 feet. It is the highest freestanding mountain in the world rising 4600 metres from its base. We have decided to take the Machame Route up the mountain which will take 7 days, 5 up to the summit and 2 to descend. This route is considered more challenging than the well used ''Coca Cola'' Marangu route.

I have paid for the climb myself, so all of the money you donate will go straight to the school.

Ngateu Seconday School is a small school in the foothills of Mt Meru, near Arusha. There are currently about 200 students at the school ranging in ages from 13 to 22 years old.

The school is a Lutheran school (so is not government funded) and would have been closed down some time due to financial problems if it had not been for an American Organisation called Safi. This organsisation helped the school by sponsoring students and funding the school.

The area is very poor so the students often don't have the right equipment or clothing for school and often can't afford the fees. However now students are being sponsored and school is starting to improve.

Having talked to the school to decide what they need most, we have decided to put the money towards refurbishing and equiping their Science Lab. At the moment it is the worst room in the school with little/no science apparatus for experiments (I will put up pictures of what it currently looks like).
