What are we doing?

The Kindrochit Challenge. Starting at 5.30am on 9th July, we will all swim 1.5km across Loch Tay, run/walk 24km up and down 7 Munros, kayak 11km down Loch Tay and then finish by cycling 54km around it. In all it will take anywhere from 12 to 16 hours to complete, and we are not predicting that we are going to enjoy it that much….. This is not a relay event, we all do all of it.

Why would we do this to ourselves?

Simply, to raise as much money as we can for a good cause. As a team we chose to do something that is clearly going to be very challenging and painful to make you feel obliged to reach further into your wallet!

Sadly, we are all repeatedly reminded of the bravery of members of our armed forces by the news that another of their number has been killed or returned home from a far-flung place badly injured. Whenever we hear these tragic news stories, and having thought first of the individuals themselves, it is impossible not to think of the families that have been left broken or badly damaged, children’s lives that have been immeasurably affected.

A small group of leading private schools in England, led by Radley College, has got together in support of these badly affected families by setting up a new scheme. The Armed Forces Fund aims to raise £5 million to fund the secondary schooling of the sons and daughters of Service men and women killed or wounded while serving their country. This bursary scheme is open to all affected families, regardless of the regiment and rank of the Services member and irrespective of any prior connection with the schools involved – there is explicitly nothing elitist about it. Boys places will be available at Radley and girls places at Downe House and St. Mary’s, Calne. This cause has struck a chord with our team, more than half of whom were lucky enough to go to Radley and also includes current Army personnel; we hope that you will want to support it too.

We know that you will get many claims for your charity and that the current economic climate does not encourage exuberant generosity, but please do give some money to help us get to our target and make this new initiative successful. Many thanks!

We are indebted to Artemis Investment Management and Wild Fox Events for allowing us to take part in their event while fundraising for an alternative charity.
