We tackle poverty with practical assistance to fight disadvantage

Story

Wirral Camp is an annual holiday camp for disadvantaged children from the Wirral area.

Every year, for over 75 years, Wirral Camp has given 45 children aged 9-11 a summer holiday to Snowdonia for an outdoor activity week. The camp, which is based at an outdoor education centre and run entirely by volunteers, includes a wide range of activities such as canoeing, abseiling, cave exploring, bouldering, gorge walking, arts and crafts, nerf games, pizza making, carnival day and more. The activities are designed to help the children develop new skills, confidence, trust and ultimately to have a brilliant holiday together.

The children who come to camp are disadvantaged and many have never been on holiday before. Some children are currently in care, some are carers for a family member or have lost a parent, some have behavioural or emotional issues in school and others are from low income families. Children leave the camp having learnt new skills, made new friends and the chance to forget the issues they have at home and just have fun!

We rely entirely on volunteers and donations to make this week possible. Anything you can donate will make a huge difference, it costs £311 per child to take them on holiday:

  • £4 would pay for a Wirral Camp t-shirt for a child
  • £10 would pay for a child's entrance to the indoor fun centre
  • £20 would pay for a child's food for the day
  • £50 would pay for an activity with a qualified instructor such as canoeing, abseiling, cave exploring or gorge walking
  • £100 would pay for 2 days of the holiday for a child
  • £335 would provide a carnival day for the children including a giant inflatable 'foam world'
Wirral Camp is run entirely by volunteers so every penny you donate will go directly to funding the holiday camp. We are part of the network of SVP holiday camps run across the country but each one must fundraise independently for their camp. Thank you for your support and for enabling these children to have a holiday!
